Why is it that when you are rocking your baby to sleep your entire body starts itching? The other day I had to laugh because Oscar swore he had an extra arm growing out of his shoulder. And that in my absence, he surely felt like a cow rubbing his itchy nose against anything he could find! I used to go around saying that I sleep like a baby – my solid 8-10 hours of sleep – until I found myself caring for Little Elaine who, at worst, wakes up every two hours throughout the night to be fed. One of our latest joys has been in the mornings when she awakes cooing and with a big smile on her little face. So it has been the new chapter of parenthood for both Oscar and I: heart-melting, exhausting, joyful, a bit nerve-wracking and precious. She is no doubt our little treasure and we will not trade her for the world.

We are thinking of you, and pray that God will bless you a thousand-fold.

寝かしつけるため赤ちゃんを抱いて揺すっていると、とたんに体中がかゆくなるんですよねぇ。先日、オスカーが肩から間違えなく手が生えてきたと言っていたので思わず笑ってしまいました。しかも私がいないときなんか、赤ちゃんを揺すっているとき、鼻がどうしてもかゆくなり、牛のように所かまわず（鼻を）かけるところを探していたというんだから笑ってしまいます。昔、自分はよく赤ちゃんのように眠れると言いふらしていたものです。8時間から10時間はざらでした。今は、皮肉にも2時間ごとにお腹をすかしては起きる娘イレインのお世話づくし…。でも最近の楽しみはイレインが朝起きると満面の笑顔を浮かべて優しい声で話しかけてくれること。「両親」となったオスカーと私は嬉しさ、疲れ、イライラ、可愛さなど、試行錯誤の毎日です。だけど、やっぱりこの子は世界で一番の宝物です。

皆さまもお元気でお過ごしのことと思います。お体はくれぐれも大事にしてください。
